WALLACE E. EDMONDSON
Wallace E. "Wally" Edmondson, 97, of Independence, MO, was called home on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Visitation will be Fri Dec. 28 at Floral Hills Funeral Home from 11-12pm with services to follow at 12. Burial will follow. Wally was born on November 24, 1915, to Violet A. (Wilson) and Thomas R. Edmondson, in Norborne, MO. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1933. He worked for the U.S. Post Office from 1943-1974, with a two year stint in the U.S. Navy ('45-'46). He was Past Commander of DAV Chapter #2 (1959-61). Wally was a long time member of the Community Blood Center, having donated 131 pints in his lifetime. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Raytown since 1961, and served as church treasurer for 20 years. He also was active in the church's bus ministry. In 1959, Wally married Grace H. Spafford, who predeceased him in 2005. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Beverly, in 1982, as well as two sisters, Mary Baird and Naomi Allen, and two brothers, Robert and Charles Edmondson. Surviving are a son, Jerry Edmondson and wife Betty of Raytown; brother, Thomas Edmondson and wife Karla of Liberty; granddaughters, Pam Luce and Susan Edmondson-Gerke and grandson, Derrick Edmondson; five great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
