Big John always had a story to share with others. My favorite, true, story was of the two times that John had been barrel rolled by wake turbulence in his Beech-18 while taking off behind much larger aircraft. John always said that both incidents were not intentional and not of his own doing, however, knowing John's adventurous nature and gleeful approach to life, I still wonder.
This poem by RCAF Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee always reminded me of John.
