I'M AM NEXT TO THE YOUNGEST OF HIS NIECES/NEPHEWS OUT OF THE NINE THAT HE HAD ON THE ANDERSON SIDE...HE ALWAYS HAD A GENTLE SOUL..I NEVER SAW HIM SHOW A BAD TEMPER...HE ALWAYS TOOK THINGS IN STRIDE..MY HUSBAND AND UNCLE FRED HAD SOMETHING IN COMMON: UNCLE FRED SERVED IN WWII AND MY HUSBAND IN VIETNAM AND BOTH WERE BRONZE STAR RECEIPIENTS...I WOULD CALL UNCLE FRED A COUPLE OF TIMES DURING THE YEAR ESPECIALLY ON HIS BIRTHDAY AND HE WOULD ALWAYS

One could always spot Fred standing quietly and taller than most in the crowd. With a twinkle in his eyes and a warm smile to greet you, he’d beckon you closer to pay you a kindness or share an amusing observation of his own—sometimes as parable, sometimes as simply a joke, but always to leave you happy for the encounter. Fred was more than a gentleman of the old school—he was the head master.
