James was born on January 21, 1935 and passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

James was a resident of Newport News, Virginia at the time of passing.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jacobs Harvell, his daughter, Laura Harvell May and four grandchildren, Christian James May, Frank Scott May, Ann Marie May and Emily Leigh May. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with Rev. Scott Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
