Toms, Alvin P., 74, of Ashland, formerly of Nelson County, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011. He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of 54 years, Doris B. Toms; one daughter, Sherry T. Shelton and her husband, W.D.; one son, Tracy S. Toms and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Ben and Shelly Shelton, and Scott and Savannah Toms; and a brother, Lacy Toms of PA. Mr. Toms was a retired electrician with G & T Electric Co. He was a member of Kenwood United Methodist Church. The family expresses grateful thanks for the loving care Alvin received in the Arcadia unit at Stratford Hall, Manor Care.

The family will receive friends, Wed., Nov. 30, 2011 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy, Ashland. Funeral Service will be held at Kenwood United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kenwood United Methodist Church, 11208 Elmont Rd., Ashland, VA 23005.
