Funeral services for Andre Cowins, 32, of Eagle Butte, SD, will be Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11:00am, MST at First Baptist Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow at Eagle Butte Cemetery. Meet at the 4 mile jct. at 5:00PM on Friday, Nov. 16 to proceed to the First Baptist Church for an all-night wake with services beginning at 7:00PM. Andre entered the spirit world November 9, 2012 in Eagle Butte. Stout Family Funeral Home, Mobridge.

Andre Brandon Cowins was born January 6, 1980 at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida, to Billy Cowins and Barbara Hampton. At age 5, Andre entered kindergarten at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Because he was a child of over-average stature, he was thought to be 8 years old. He attended Brentwood Elementary School and then Nathan B. Young Elementary. He attended North Dade Middle School and Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School as well as Carol City High School. He joined the Job Corps in Station, South Carolina, taking courses in carpentry.

He followed his passion of writing as a poet, publishing a collection of his work called "Beyond Experience". He also developed an interest in cooking.
Around November of 2002, Andre desired to spend time with his older brother, Keith, in Aberdeen, SD. on November 2, 2004 his daughter Jamira was born. He met Alecia Sampson and moved to Eagle Butte in 2005. He and Alecia were married on September 29, 2007. He enrolled in college in the fall of 2008, taking communications classes.

Dre, as he was often called, loved playing with children, collecting sponge bob memorabilia, helping others and spending time with his daughter. He was always ready for a new adventure and enjoyed traveling. He worked in maintenance for the city of Eagle Butte, the Eagle Butte Post Office and cooked and washed dishes at the Outrider Cafe.

Andre is survived by his wife, Alecia; daughter, Jamira; son, Nation; step-children, Britney and Kim; mother, Barbara Hampton; father, Bill Cowins; siblings Christopher Hampton, Raquel Hampton, Cory Cowins, Jamel Cowins and Keith Cowins; his in-laws, Vivian and Hayes Sampson; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and John Maynard and their children, Echo, Sierra and Josee; grandchildren, Natalie and Christopher along with nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to list.
