GERHARD, ANNA MATILDA GUNDLING, known as Ann (October 26, 1922 West New York, NJ - January 4, 2013, Dallas, TX) was an amazing woman. Only 3 pounds at birth, heated bricks covered in blankets kept her warm. After graduating business college she joined the Navy Secretarial Pool as a WAVE in World War II. The Women in the Military Memorial in Washington, D.C. has a plaque bearing her name. Chris Gerhard, a shipmate of Ann's brother, met her on leave. They fell in love and married in January 1945. Jeffrey Lee was born in 1946. William Chris was born in 1949. In 31 years of marriage, Chris and Ann lived a wonderful life filled with family, friends, and travel. After Chris's death in 1976, Ann became a bookkeeper for Circle T Foods until retirement in the 1980's. She never remarried. She was always a fun person to be with. She continued to travel, taking several cruises. She was beloved by her 3 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her father and mother, William B. and Anna Bauer Gundling, and two brothers, Kenneth and Wilbur Gundling. She is survived by her sons, Jeff and Bill, her grandsons Michael, Chris, and Sean, and her great grandchildren Trenton and Parker. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on January 9, 2013 at 6:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 11122 Midway Road, Dallas, Texas. Sharing memories of Ann at this service are encouraged. Graveside Services will be held on January 10, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, Texas. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street and Twelfth Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
