Arthur Allan Pickett, 90, of Ashland passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his home.
Born in Caroline County, he served in the Pacific during World War II in the U. S. Navy. He was a retired educator and a charter member of Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad. The auxiliary gym of Courtland High School was named in his honor. He was a member of Cardinal Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Anna S. Pickett; two daughters, Jean Budny and her husband, Bruce, of Chesterfield and Sue Stone and her husband, Kenneth, of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Ruth Pickett; three grandchildren, Joshua Stone, Allan Budny and Mary Budny; a great-grandson, Kaleb Stone and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Stone.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
A funeral service will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. 186, Ladysmith, VA. 22501 or Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. o. Box 545, Ashland, VA. 23005.
