Azielee K. George, 84, of Hopewell passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the Riverview on the Appomattox. Azielee was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Albert, and her parents, Viola Leonard Kepley and Calvin Kepley. Azielee attended Montreat College in Ashville, North Carolina where she obtained a degree in education and graduated with honors. While at Montreat, she worked as secretary for Reverend Billy Graham. When she moved to Hopewell, she continued her education at William and Mary, obtaining a Masters Degree in Business Education. Her first teaching experience was in 1942 at High Point High School, High Point, North Carolina. After a short teaching experience there, her family relocated to Hopewell, and there she married Albert and continued her teaching career. As a Business Education expert and leader, she was Chairman of the Department and Junior Class Sponsor until she retired from Hopewell High School. She took the position of Assistant State Supervisor of Business Education at the State Department of Education, and later served as director of Public Relations and Development at Petersburg General Hospital and served on the Board of Directors at Appomattox Regional Library. She was a life long member of West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell. Azielee is survived by her daughter, Jane G. Cressall and her husband William Cressall of Mesa, Arizona. She is also survived by nieces, Susan and Vern Boatman and family, Linda and Jodi Eure, all of Orlando, Florida. Surviving family also includes sister-in-law, Rosemary George, nephew, Phillip George, and niece Eileen George, all of Richmond, Virginia and members of the Leonard family of Lexington, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, and where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, June 25, 2010 with Rev. Kevin Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to West End Presbyterian Church, 1600 Atlantic Street, Hopewell, VA 23860.
