Benjamin Joseph Fleagle, 88, of Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday, February 12 at Patriots Colony Convalescent Center. The beloved husband of Muriel for 64 years, he was a retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sargeant, serving his country for 27 years.
A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, his missions took him all over the world as an airborne radio operator. One of his last assignments took the family to Taipei, Taiwan, where he acted as a MAAG advisor to Taiwanese military officers in construction and maintenance of radar sites. He and Muriel enjoyed retirement in San Diego and Colorado Springs, finally settling in Williamsburg in 1998.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Jill Sanders and husband, Estes; daughter, Cynthia MacBlane and husband, Robert (Scotty); and grandchildren, Jennie and Adam MacBlane. He is also survived by sisters, Miriam Linker and Vivian Leatherwood; brother, Richard; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Jennie Fleagle; and two brothers, James and Willard. He will also be missed dearly by his two cats, Binky and Scooter.
The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg on Saturday, February 23 from 1-2 PM, with a service beginning at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, friends are invited to celebrate his life at the home of his daughter, Cindy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Patriots Colony Convalescent Center for the loving care they provided during the last weeks of Mr. Fleagle's life. According to his wishes, he will be cremated with later interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
