Mr. Bernard W. Courtney

Bernard W. Courtney, 97, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 19, 2012. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Ann Courtney; parents, Randy and Ida Smith- Courtney, of Warsaw; two sisters and one brother. He was a member of Hanover Friends Church for 50 years and served his country as a Marine in WW II. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Brunel (Greg); brother, Herbert Courtney; sister, Annie C. Headley; grandson, Michael Brunel; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231, where a service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. Interment is to follow in Washington Memorial Park.
