Betty Jo (Bandy) Shalaski, 77, of Williamsburg, formerly of Newton, NC, passed away on September 1, 2012.

Betty was a veteran of the Women's Army Corps, where she went on to raise her family of five children. She then went on to receive her cosmetology license. An active member of the community, she volunteered with the James City County Rescue Squad as an EMT and served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Williamsburg-James City County Jail. She was also actively involved with the Scouts and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church and affiliated with St. Bede Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Kay) and Shawn (Lisa); daughters, Constance Francis, Joanne Archie, Karen "Kiki" Durant (Ronald); grandchildren, Alex, Tyler, Jessica, Dalton, David, Gracelyn and Andrew; and brother, Thomas P. Bandy (Deloris).

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Services will be held at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7479 Richmond Road, Norge on Thursday, September 6 at 11:00 AM.
