Carolyn Waite Mason, 90 of Bowling Green died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at her home.
Born Caroline Jul Waite in California, Mrs. Mason was the daughter of the late Rev. Claire Luther and Louise Waite. She was the widow of The Honorable Julien J. Mason, who served in the Virginia House of Delegates for 12 years and was a prominent attorney in Bowling Green for many years. Through the efforts of her husband, Mrs. Mason's name was changed to Carolyn after they were married. Mrs. Mason was a vocal coach and a member of St. Asaph's Episcopal Church where she served as choir director for over 50 years. She met Mr. Mason in Hawaii, where she was performing with the USO during World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Claire Louise Smith (Ronald) of Ashland, Jane Lynn Narro (Max) of Richmond and Jacquelin Mason Schaumburg of McLean; eight grandchildren, Andrew Mason Smith (Crystal), Jason Bowers Smith (Lori), Claire Louise Fairfield (Christopher Sean), Stephen Gordon Cary, Julia Garnet Schaumburg, Eric David Mason Schaumburg, Carolyn Gloria Schaumburg and Dana Marie Schaumburg; and three great grandchildren, Millard Andrew Smith IV, Aubrey Mason Smith and Nicholas Bowers Smith.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 11 at St. Asaph's Episcopal Church with Rev. Bambi Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Bowling Green. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 10 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
