Cecilia Diaz entered into Heaven on December 23, 2012.
Cecilia Diaz was born February 1, 1937 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, son of Antonio and Herminia Vargas. At the age of seventeen she moved to Connecticut and lived with her Aunt Guillermina Lugo . After receiving her GED in Connecticut she became ateacher's aide. Cecilia was very active in the St. Joseph Catholic Church and traveled on several mission trips. While in Connecticut she was a part of a few organizations. She was an officer of the Puerto Rican Day Parade of Norwalk, CT; she was involved in the Marriage Encounter Program and the Cursillos de Cristianidad. Cecilia moved to Tampa, FL with her family and continued her service to the community and the church. She attended the Encarnacion Church and was a Eucharistic Minister. She would often go to the prison and hold bible studies with the inmates and volunteer at St. Vincent the Paul. She continued teaching at Woodbridge Elementary until she retired.
In Puerto Rico Cecilia met Oscar Diaz. Oscar told Cecilia that he would marry her one day and so he did in 1960 in Norwalk, CT. To that union were four beautiful daughters Ivonn Vera, Arline Diaz, Maribel Diaz Vargas, and Susie (Cecilia) Diaz. To her family, Cecilia Diaz was a loving, generous, and kind-hearted person. She lived for Jesus Christ and for her family. She believed in forgiveness and the power of prayer. On December 23, 2012, Cecilia went into peace after a fatal car accident. Her beautiful smile, infectious laugh and loving heart will always be remembered. She is survived by her brothers and sister Antonio Vargas Jr., Maria Rodriguez, and David Vargas; her daughters Ivonn Vera, Arline Diaz, Maribel Diaz Vargas, Susie (Cecilia) Diaz; her grandchildren William Esquilin, Jennifer Esquilin, Angel Vera III, Fitzgerald Scott II, Domonique Scott, Jovanna York, Jhamal Scott, Jhamile Scott, Yasmine Vera, Jacqueline Diaz, Jalissa York, and Oscar Diaz; her eight great-grandchildren and expecting Messiah Angel in May 2013, and her beloved dog Linda.
