Mr. Clifton Coleman Purks, Jr.

Purks, Jr., Clifton Coleman, 94, a lifelong resident of Varina, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Esther Purks; parents, Clifton C. Purks, Sr. and Pearl Overton Purks; sisters, Irene Weis and Marguerite Newell Pollard. He is survived by daughter, Nadine Bivins (John); son, Clifton C. Purks, III (Judy); sisters, Roberta Carlton (Weldon) and Henderson Foster (Buck); seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. Clifton loved his country and dutifully served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also volunteered thousands of hours at the VA hospital where he was recognized for his service. Clifton worked many years at Overnite Transportation and later retired as the Vice President of Foremost Warehouse. The Family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 15 at 2 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Sandston, VA 23150.
