Dale Kembery, 90, of Thayer, passed away on Sunday, December 09, 2012 at the Afton Care Center in Afton.

Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15th 2012 at Hopeville Cemetery in Hopeville, Iowa.

Pastor Dwayne Henrichs with officiate. No visitation will be held. Flag presentation will be by the John B. Parks Post # 8882, Afton, V.F.W. The Powers Funeral Home of Creston is assisting with arrangements.

Leland Dale Kembery, son of Sadie Glen (Standley) and James Prentiss Kembery, was born on September 28, 1922 in Adair County, Iowa. The family moved to Arispe in 1940 and later to a farm near Thayer in 1942. Dale graduated from Arispe High School in 1943. He served in the United States Navy from May of 1943 to April of 1946. He returned to Thayer to farm. Dale worked at repairing radios and TVs for many years. He continued to farm until he retired in 1996. Dale moved to the Afton Care Center in January 2010. Dale was a lifetime member of the National Rifleman Association.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Kienholz and Carmen Hicks of Spokane, Washington, and two brothers William Cullen Kembery of Goshen, Indiana and Lyle Kembery of Thayer, Iowa; various nieces and nephews, including local niece, Karon Jones of Thayer.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Alda Cooper, Lorraine Scott, Gloria Meaders and Grace Sills, a brother, James Prentiss Kembery Jr. and a niece, Marilyn Tostenson.
