Dorothy J. Pannell, 74, of Thomson, IL, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Mercy Living Center, Clinton, IA.
Dorothy was born November 7, 1937, the daughter of J. Edward and Bernadette (Foreman) Kustes. She married Robert Pannell on April 23, 1960, in Fulton, IL. She was educated in the Smith rural school and graduated from Fulton High School. Dorothy grew up on the family farm in Fulton, until she attended Mount St. Clare College, Clinton, IA, where she graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. She loved to laugh and sing. Dorothy loved to give of herself, she especially loved to teach children who struggled how to read and write. She enjoyed a good game of cards, musicals, plays and a good joke. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She was a devoted seamstress to her children in their youth and as well as her grandchildren. She also was a big supporter of the Girl Scouts and 4-H. She also loved her Shih Tzu, Sparky. Dorothy was employed with the Clinton Bridge Commission, Nielsen's corporation, Thomson School District and the West Carroll School District; retiring at the age of 70 because she couldn't bear the thought of being bored. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, IL, the church's Altar & Rosary Society, Fulton American Legion Auxiliary, T.O.P.S. and Curves. Dorothy was a great asset to all of her children and was loved immensely by all who met her.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Pannell of Thomson, IL; 2 daughters, Barbara L. Lawrence of Fulton, IL and Lisa M. (Michael) Dienst of Maple Park, IL; 2 sons, Edward J. Biggs of Moline, IL; many nieces and nephews and a huge circle of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, John E. Kustes, Jesse Lemmel and Virgil Lemmel.
It was Dorothy's wish that cremation rites be accorded. A gathering of friends and family will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, August 19, 2012, in the McDonald Funeral Home, Fulton, IL. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 20, 2012, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fulton, IL, with Reverend David Austin officiating. Inurnment will be at the Calvary Hill Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
