Dorothy Kay VanMetre passed away on Monday, August 6, 2012 after courageously battling lung cancer for 14 months, at the age of 52. Born in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Dottie grew up in Lewisburg, WV. She was a graduate of Concord College and obtained her Master's Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. An analyst for the VA Department of Transportation, Dottie made her home in Richmond, VA, with her beloved dog Charley. Dottie was predeceased by her father, James M. VanMetre III; sister, Sandra VanMetre Judy and sister-in-law, Linda Holt VanMetre. She is survived by, and will be deeply missed by: mother, Wilda Boyd VanMetre, her sister and best friend, Julie VanMetre Tate and brother-in-law Robert J. Tate; brother James M. VanMetre IV, six nieces and nephews: Lisa Judy Metchick, Judy VanMetre Poore, Karen VanMetre Arbuckle, David N. Judy, James Boyd "Jeb" Tate, and Robert "Lee" Tate; grandnieces: Jaelynn C. Parks, Victoria "Tori" L. Parks, Jamie L. Tate and grandnephew Samuel D. Poore. Family will receive visitors at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Ashland Presbyterian Church in Ashland, VA, where Dottie was a member. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, Dottie would appreciate donations made to a favorite animal charity (her Charley was rescued by Richmond SPCA) or her church.
