Eugene was born to a Mildred Carter Pruett on Aug. 31, 1918, in Hopewell, Virginia at the then SMALL hospital known as the John Randolph hospital. Unfortunately, before he reached 6 WEEKS old, his mother passed as a VICTIM of the 1918 Flu epidemic. Eugene was raised by his father, Joseph William Pruett, who worked for Tubize plant in Hopewell, at the time Hopewell had approx. 50,000 citizens from all walks of life. His father, "Joe Will" as he was lovingly called by his friends and family, coached his plants softball team, having won many tournaments year after year. "Joe Will" also wrestled. He would take on ALL who challenged him, and NEVER lost a match, which is VERY reputable and dmonstrates VAST talent, extreme strength, a lot of guts, and brains when living in a town of 50,000 people who had nothing to do BUT work and "blow off steam".
Eugene picked up his father's athletic and intellectual prowes as he was the class president from 9th. grade all the way through his senior year at Hopewell High School. During this time, he remaind at the TOP of his class, maintaining a 4.0 G.P.A. all through school, and he played football for the Hopewell Blue Devils under Forrest Glass during a time when there were NO age or other restrictions on anyone who wanted to compete on the highschool gridiron.
This DOES make a HUGE difference, when you consider there were military veterans returning from WW1 and out of the service that decided to return to high school at ages up to 28 years old, giving a SIGNNIFIGANTadvantage of physical development and emotional "hardness" over a young teenagenr weighing no more than 145 lbs. in 9th. grade, and avg.195 lbs. as a Senior. As a Senior, Eugene, or "Gene" as his friends and family called him, WON a "FULL RIDE scholarship to the College of William and Mary BOTH Accademically and for FOOTBALL, as he was a football standout ALL FOUR YEARS tha he participated with the Hopewell Blue Devils High School football squad.
Most Importantly, "Gene" met, dated, and finally married a VERY special girl he actually grew up with both from the same neighborhood, this being Evelyn Tyler Hudson, to become Pruett as they finally wed on Nov. 1941. A devistating time in American history, as World War II broke out as against the United States of America being attacked by the Japanese Imperial military at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii JUST the NEXT year after they were married.
Eugene, or "Gene", was working at the then chemical manufacturing giant Allied Chemical, holding a position as an Electrician. He was working this job when he was married to Evelyn Tyler Hudson Pruett, lovingly called "Ebby" by HER friends and family, and remained there until "DUTY TO HIS COUNTRY" took him off his job and joining the United States Military in 1943. Hoping to get into the NAVY, he and others were actually physically "pulled" out of the line for the Nave, and THRUST into the line for the Army.
"Gene" served in the United States Army serving as a Communications Technician, and in FACT, being selected to be a GUARD for a Navajo "CODE TALKER". "Gene" was assigned to a Najavo Indian CHIEF, known by his Arizona Tribe as "Chief Coronado". "Gene" and Chief Coronado" served together in the Pacific Theatre, winding up in the Islands of the Phillipines, where DUE TO efforts of Gene,
Chief Coronado, and other "Code Talkers", the Japanese were DRIVEN OFF the Phillipine Islands, earning them a Phillipine Liberation medal, as when running communication lines through the islands, they would encounter members of the Japanese Imperal Army, having to defend themselves in actual jungle warfare, involving ONLY "hand to hand" combat.
However, their PRIMARY mission objective was location of Japanese bunkers, supplly sites, and travel route, as when located, Gene's companion, Ghief Coronado, would telegraph the position of the Japanese over the telecommunication lines run by "Gene" and the "Chief", and the "Chief" would radio in these locations using his OWN language that was adopted BY the United States Military, ALL branches, during WWII, ot be used as the ONLY unbreakable "CODE", enabling the United States military to wreak havoc on the Japanese ultimately ending in their TOTAL defeat in the Islands of the Phillipines.
Eugene, Chief Coronado, and the REST of the United States military assigned TO the Pacific Theatre remained ON the Phillipine Island awating actual INVASION of the Island Country of Japan that was planned by the great, late 5 star General Dwight D. Eisenhower, or "Ike", as the ENTIRE country called him. One special basically unknown FACT, is that Dwight, or "Ike", had (5), count them, FIVE brothers, ALL who were called "IKE". However, not much is known about them, at leat by me.
The ONLY thing that stopped this invasion on Japan, that was KNOWN by ALL military TOP BRASS would cost the United States of America MILLIONS of it's BEST as soldiers invading this melinnia old country steeped in the ARTS of self defense, known to NEVER give up, and that invading that country would result in actual millions of death of U.S. soldiers. It WAS THIS FACT, that caused "IKE", to O.K. something that had NEVER been done before in history, and thank GOD has NOT YET happened again, that is the dropping of (2) Atomic bombs that were the result of YEARS of "tight lipped" planning under the code name "The Manhatten Project", and such project developed specifically for the purpose it was later utilized for in June, 1945.
With the "Enola Gay" (Enola spelled backwards spelling "ALONE") the United States sent this plane guarded by squadrons of fighter planes for defense, over the Island of Japan and dropped their NEW invention, the BRAINCHILD of an EXTREMELY famous mathmatician, Albert Einstein, resulting in the ATOMIC Bomb, named "Little Fat Boy", on a major city in Japan so as to force this head strong and fierce country into compitulation, and also ending their fierce fighting in the Pacific using such feared tactics known as "Kamazi", translated to "Devine Wind" by using the planes as bombs or airborne torpedos as flown by the plane's pilot in a suicide mission directly into our U.S.Naval Vessels and inflicting MAJOR destruction to the entire Naval fleet and it personnel, OUR U.S. servicemen fighting in WWII.
I'll continue later.
