George A. Sweet, 86, of Williamsburg, died on January 2, 2013. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Paul LeRose.
George proudly served with the U.S. Army during WWII and received the Bronze Star Medal for his service. He graduated from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He worked for United Technologies, and while there, was president of the Management Club. After 34 ½ years, he retired as an aerospace engineer. In his spare time, he was an avid model railroad collector, and people came from all around to see his train layouts. He was also an avid tennis and golf player. Everything George did, he did well.
George will be remembered by his friends and family for his marvelous sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan M. Sweet; children, Karen S. LeRose (John) and David G. Sweet (Sharon); grandchildren, Ellen and Ben LeRose and Brandon, Ethan and Travis Sweet; and two great-grandchildren, Tara and Colton Sweet.
Funeral services will be held at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 3520, Williamsburg, VA 23187-3520 or to the Salvation Army, 151 Kristiansand Drive #109, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
