DAVIS, George Russell, 86, of Ashland, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012. He was born January 18, 1926 in Stormont, Virginia, the son of Elmer Stapleton Davis and Irma Katherine Moody Davis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Davis Davis, and three brothers, Elmer Stapleton, Jr., Richard Andrew, and Clinton Lee. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Wuest Davis; two daughters, Kay Brooks (Wayne), and Robin Scott (Ray); four grandsons, Russell Yohe, Brad Yohe (Tara), Hunter Brooks and Ashby Brooks (Erin Peters); one granddaughter, Heather Brooks Smith (Troy) and two great grandchildren, Jett Smith and Summer Smith. George was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines for 18 years, and owned and operated Bent Brook Egg Farm for 25 years. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Ashland. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Wash. Hwy., Ashland, with the funeral service on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church Ashland. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to First Baptist Church Ashland, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, VA 23005.
