Glenvil J. Branham, 84, of Williamsburg, VA, and formerly of Barberton, OH, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Glen, originally from Kentucky, worked in the rubber industry at B.F. Goodrich in Akron, OH, having had a hand in the manufacturing of nearly every conceivable rubber product made there. He retired in 1990, following 31 years of service.
A resident of Williamsburg, VA, for nearly 10-years, he formerly lived in Barberton, OH, for most of his adult life. He enjoyed the Magic City's crown jewel-Lake Anna, fishing at Portage Lakes, gardening, cheering for the Cleveland Browns and outings to Wadsworth, OH, for sweet corn at Seiberling Farms, B&K frosted mug root beer and spanish hot dogs. He loved sharing meals with family at many restaurants, the world famous Barberton chicken houses and just plain good old times. He especially loved the decorated windows at O'Neil's and Polsky's on Akron's south main street at Christmastime.
He never quit a job till it was done. His snow shoveling ability was legendary as he had the cleanest sidewalks in town during the middle of a blizzard. A life-long follower of Bluegrass Music, he loved anything Bill Monroe and Roy Acuff ever performed. He was a Sergeant-of-Arms for the Louisville Chapter of Ohio Country Western Music Association.
In Williamsburg, he was a member of Smith Memorial Baptist Church and resident of Chambrel, enjoying many special friendships. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and antiquing, collecting watches and belt buckles, but most of all, his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Ann Branham; sons, Dennis of California, Dave (Linda) of Fredericksburg, VA and Rob of Seoul Korea; daughter, Julie (Steve) of Barberton, OH; and a sister (Rosie) of Pikeville, KY as well as six grandchildren ( Ashley, Laura, Andrew, Rory, Meah, Chloe) and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother (Lucy), father (Isaac), sister (Lydia) and brothers (John, Emery, Bill, Everett, Alfred and Charles).
The family will receive friends on Wed., August 22, 2012 from 10 AM to 11 AM, at Smith Memorial Baptist Church, 6515 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, VA.
