Herman Wayne Yates, 74, of Hopewell passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his son, William Allen Yates. Herman was a member of the Hopewell Optimist Club and the Dinwiddie Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Carol L. Yates, two sons, David Wayne Yates and his wife, Mary Jean, John Byron Yates and his wife, Jill, four grandchildren, Haley Nicole, Peyton Rae, Kristian Elder and Zarah Olivia Yates, a brother, Charles Hays.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA and where funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, August 27, 2010 with Rev. Loren Million officiating. Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dinwiddie Church of the Nazarene, 24604 Old Vaughan Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841.
