Mrs. Irene Eleanor Harton

Harton, Irene passed away peacefully on June 30, 2012 at her home with her family beside her. Irene known to her family as "Granny" was 91. She left her home Birmingham, England in 1947 with her first child after the war to join her husband in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Harton; they were married for 62 years; brothers, Geoffrey and George Greensmith.

She is survived by her younger brother, Laurie Greensmith of Birmingham, England. She was the child of parents, George and Maude Greensmith. She is survived by her sons, Geoffrey and Steve; daughters-in-law, Terry Cornwell and Cindy Eubank; granddaughters, Carey Harton of Tampa Bay, FL, Kelly Wilkinson of Alexandria, VA, Brooke Harton Miller and Tracey Bowser of Richmond; and three great grandchildren; Hayden Wilkinson, Macy and Declan Bowser.

She attended vocational school, as a teen, later enlisted in the British Women's Air Corps during WWII. Irene was also a long time active member of the Transatlantic Brides & Parents Association, Richmond Redcoats Branch and Varina Episcopal Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always warm and cordial and she leaves behind many family and friends that will miss her greatly.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at Varina Episcopal Church with interment to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Varina Episcopal Church, 2385 Mill Road, Richmond, VA 23231.
