James Benton Walters entered God's promised land on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the age of 69. He is survived by Mary Binder Walters, his loving wife of 46 years, and his three daughters, Charmaine Mary Walters Roberts (Michael), Kimberle Marie Walters Bozant (Mark), and Angele Louise Walters. He was the son of the late Ollie Mae Walters Mitchell, Frank V. Mitchell, and Claude James Walters. He is the grandfather of Brittanie Schneider, Mark James Bozant, Ashley Roberts, Michael Roberts, Jr., David Roberts, Brianna Bozant, Paul Roberts, Tyler Roberts and Tiffany Bozant. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace Ann Bozant, and his sister, Bobbie Jo Walters May. He is also survived by his siblings, Billie Ladner and Roy Walters, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. James was born on August 27, 1943, in Apalachicola, FL and was raised in Bay St. Louis, MS. He has been a resident of St. Bernard Parish since 1977. James was a graduate of Bay High School in Bay St. Louis, MS, Pearl River Junior College in MS, and Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math in 1978 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering in 1986, both from Tulane University. James proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He continued service to his country as a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, for 22 years. He led a distinguished and honorable life always striving to remain committed to the ethics and values of the Marine Corps and the Army. His daily actions reflected the values of Honor, Courage, Commitment, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Integrity and Personal Courage. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, LA on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral Mass in the Chapel. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell, LA.
