James Quinton Nolan, Sr., 84, of Hopewell passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at his residence. Jim was a retired Army Warrant Officer who served in World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War. Jim retired from the Army in 1969. He had a second career as the Supervisor, Controller Department, Philip Morris in Richmond, Virginia. After retiring in 1984 from Philip Morris, Jim volunteered with the Army Community Service. The Tri-City Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives, The Southside Virginia Retired Officer’s Association and the Catholic Church at Fort Lee, Virginia. He received numerous awards and decorations while in the Army to include 3 Bronze Stars; as well as several awards from his volunteer activities. Jim is survived by his wife, Rita P. Nolan, son James Nolan, Jr. of Miami, Florida, and daughters Karen Nolan of Cumming, Georgia and Rita Selman of Eden Prairie, Minneapolis. He has six grandchildren, Alyssa Nolan, Jeffrey Nolan, Jake Nolan, Devin Shoupe, Matthew Selman and Alexis Selman. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Fort Lee Chapel with Father Kilumbu officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
