James R. Cecil, Sr., 77 of Woodford died Wednesday August 1, 2012 at his home. He was the widower of Jeannie P. Cecil and had retired from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative after 41 years of service. He was an avid hunter and member of Salvia Hunt Club. James was well known in the area for his vegetable gardening.

Survivors include his children, Jimmy Cecil Jr. and his wife Catherine of Woodford, Kimberly Wright and her husband Danny of Woodford and Keith Cecil and his wife Tammie of Fredericksburg; three brothers, George Cecil of Woodford, John Cecil of Richmond and Reuben Cecil of Bowling Green; three sisters, Ruby Smith of Richmond, Jenny Brown of Fredericksburg and Rachael Cecil of Bowling Green; five grandchildren, Laura Gifford and her husband, Adam, Justin Cecil, Tyler Wright, Kenzie Cecil and Tanner Cecil; two great grandchildren, Michael and Madelynn Gifford.

A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday August 4, 2012 at Salem Baptist Church, Sparta, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Friday 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Caroline Relay for Life, P.O. Box 920, Bowling Green, VA 22427.
