I had the honor and privilege to work with John in the Accounting Dept. at NCSC for 17 years. John was the most knowledgable, dependable, professional (and humorous) person I have ever met in the working environment. It was with deep sadness to learn of John's passing earlier this week.

John was, quite simply, one of the finest individuals I ever knew. In our work together at the National Center for State Courts extending over 14 years, he was the Rock of Gibraltar in the accounting department. There are many adjectives that could be used to describe John and his work – trustworthy, loyal, consistent, thorough, honest, insightful – but above all he was thoroughly competent in the art and craft of accounting. John was masterful at taking the most complicated and thorny issues (and there were many) and through research and analysis develop the basis for decision making. Unspoken between us but always present was an assurance and level of confidence that “. . . . this is my best work and you may rely on it.” The issues were always fully understood, documented and scheduled and the options for resolution were clearly identified. John approached his work with laser-like focus and allegiance to professionalism unrivaled by anyone I've ever known. John's work was a major factor in our outside auditor's statement to our Board that “ . . . . of all the public service organizations that we audit, the National Center for State Courts has the best accounting and financial management system.”

In all the years we worked together, when the ball was in John's court, it never touched the ground. From my standpoint, it doesn't get any better than that!
