John “Rio” Garrison, 66, of Prince George passed away suddenly December 23, 2010. The son of the late Eberhard Olbrich and Erika Olbrich Proctor, he was born in Germany and came to the U.S. in 1956. He is survived by son Eric Garrison, sister Marianne Beith, and brother, Rainer Olbrich as well as nieces, nephew and relatives living in the U.S. and Germany. He served two years in the U.S. Air Force; a graduate of the University of Maryland; lifetime member of UMD Alumni and the American Legion. He loved dogs, sports, and travel. He was a frequent traveler to Europe and Latin America. He was a friend and good neighbor to many and will be missed. A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA with visitation following the service until 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the SPCA/Humane Society of Petersburg / Colonial Heights, would be appreciated.
