John T. Kenney, a Clevelander and World War II veteran, died peacefully on June 22, 2012 at the age of 94. Born on August 14, 1917, he graduated from John Carroll University in 1940. Soon after, he served as a Captain in the 90th Infantry Division with General Patton's Third Army. He landed in Normandy on D-Day and fought through France and across Central Europe, which included the Battle of the Bulge and the Ruhr Valley Campaign. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, the Bronze Star cluster, five Battle Ribbons and a Purple Heart.
In 1944, he married his beloved wife, Patricia McGorray of Lakewood, Ohio.
The post-war years brought him back to Cleveland and a long career at Ohio Bell. In 1964, he was transferred to AT&T headquarters in New York City, and he retired in 1984. His retirement years were pleasurably spent in Williamsburg, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children, John, Joan and Susan; and his granddaughter, Meredyth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg on Tuesday, June 26 at 9:00 AM. Burial will take place at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River, OH.
