Joseph Alexander Barlow, Jr, 86, of Shumansville, passed to the Lord, March 5, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr. and Pearl Ellett Barlow and his beloved wife, of 54 years, Ruby Whittaker Barlow.

He is survived by his brother, William of Milford; five children, Kenneth (Ginny) of Mt. Vernon; Larry of Fredericksburg, Wayne (Dawn) of Midlothian, JoAnne Truslow of Shumansville, and Edwin (Katherine) of Shumansville; seven grandchildren, Melissa Morrell, Monica Williams, Amy Mahan, W. Scott, Jr., B.J. and Morgan Barlow, and Eddie Truslow; five step-grandchildren four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated from Caroline High School in 1943 and served as a Private First Class in the Virginia Reserve Militia (Minute Men) from 1943-1945. He also received the US Department of Agriculture certificate of Farm War Service in the Food for Freedom program in 1943 and the National FFA American Farmer award in 1946.

Joe was a life-long member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Shumansville and was awarded life- Deacon having served as Deacon in excess of 30 years. Joe was also a member of over 50 years and Past Master of Kilwinning Crosse Masonic Lodge in Bowling Green, Va. When he was young, Joe loved to play baseball and softball and had a life-long love of fishing.
He worked as Power Plant Operations Engineer and Supervisor at FMC Film Plant in Fredericksburg, Va. 1957-1978; Power and Maintenance supervisor at O'Sullivan Manufacturing in Winchester, Va. 1978-1981 and in utility operations at Delco Moraine in Fredericksburg 1981-1993.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 9 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Rev. Rob Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery, Shumansville.
