Joyce Shackelford Hogge

Hayes: Joyce Shackelford Hogge, 75, died on Sunday, March 25, 2012 after a courageous and valiant struggle with cancer surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church and graduated from the first class of Gloucester High School in 1955. Joyce was secretary at Gloucester High School during the early seventies and retired from the Yorktown-Jamestown Foundation. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother and a very caring grandmother who loved her family unconditionally. Joyce was the type of person who always put others ahead of herself. She had a beautiful radiant smile and a cheerful, quiet manner that was endearing to everyone. Her most important achievement in life was her beautiful family. Those of us who knew her and shared her love, feel truly blessed. She will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, J. Morgan and Grace Rowe Shackelford; and brother, Raymond B. Shackelford.
She is survived by:
Daughters: Donna H. Green and husband Rodger
Luella H. Manning and husband Ken
Son: John E. Hogge and wife Melissa
Grandchildren: Shawn, Jamie, Shannon, Crystal, Kevin, Elliott, Misty, Taylor, Faith & Morgan
Great grandchildren: Amber, Kyrson, Hayden, Carter, Mackinzy, Brayden & Dezaray
Numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services officiated by Reverend Bill West and Reverend Richard Whiteheart will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Windsor Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday, March 30, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
