Lewis C. Waltrip, Sr. passed from this life on July 17, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Pauline Fulks Waltrip; his parents, Thomas and Martha Waltrip; one sister, Virginia Rasmussen; six brothers, Dudley, Woodrow, Thomas Calvin, William "Sonny", Gene and Mayo Waltrip. He is survived by one sister, Peggy Zuzma; one brother, Mahlon "Johnny" Waltrip; his three children, Sue Richards (David), Patricia Dykstra (Stan), and C. Lewis Waltrip II (Phyllis); nine grandchildren, Jennifer Bhartiya (Swapnil) (Brussels, Belgium), Ryan Richards (Mountain View, California), Allison Drinkwater (Phillip), Kurt Dykstra , Lindsey Upton (Brandon), Laura Ann Gayle, Mitchell Gayle, Carlton Waltrip III, and Calie Waltrip; two great grandchildren, Skyler Upton and Braelynn Upton; and a large extended family and friends.

Lewis was born on September 18, 1925 and was raised on the family farm on Ironbound Road. He attended Five Forks School and graduated from Matthew Whaley in 1943. He was an avid baseball player. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps, including service on Okinawa, during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Lewis was a talented musician and played guitar and piano with a band for several years, including performances on live radio. He was part owner of an auto dealership and worked in the construction industry for many years. He helped his son start his own construction and development business.

His loves and hobbies his entire life were hunting, fishing, and family gatherings. Lewis was a strong patriot and loved his country, being especially respectful of the flag.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 20 from 9:00-10:30 AM, with a service following at 11:00 AM at Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 3287 Ironbound Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
