Melvin Ray Crowder, 88, of Sandston, passed away on December 2, 2012. Mr. Crowder served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII being awarded the Bronze Star. He owned Crowder's Service Center for the past 38 years. He was a member of the Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church. And enjoyed camping, fast cars, and spending good times with his family and many friends. God gave us all many wonderful years with an awesome, loving, father, husband, and a hero to all that knew him. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille Crowder; his sons, Randy, Ray, Jr. and his wife Kathy; his daughter, Jane Stevens and her husband James; grandchildren, Victoria Stevens, Kyle Crowder and his wife Erin, and little Ray Crowder; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Jacob, and Angel Crowder. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, VA 23231. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, VA.
