Wolford, Mildred H., 84, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011. Born on September 14, 1927 to O. E. Hawkins and O'Meta Thomas Hawkins, Mrs. Wolford attended E. C. Glass High School. She was the widow of G. William Wolford whom she married on January 2, 1948. She was also predeceased by her sister, Eleanore H. Gunter and her brother, Allen C. Hawkins. Mrs. Wolford is survived by her two children; Dr. Stephen M. Wolford, Sarah W. DeBoer, and a granddaughter, Mary Beth Wolford. She was a retired teacher from Jefferson Elementary School in Wood County, WV. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Kentucky. She loved English history, books and quilting. She created several quilts for her children. Cats and dogs were also a great love of hers. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Ashland and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Wolford loved her family, and was a Sunday school teacher, choir director and an avid genealogist, who solved two family mysteries of "disappearing" relatives through determined research.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, November 25, 2011 at Springhill Cemetery, Lynchburg, VA. Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
