Muriel Greatrix Woodward, 97 of Bowling Green died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Bowling Green Health and Rehabilitation Center.

In 1945, Muriel was working at the Patuxent Naval Air Station when she met the handsome and charming Craig Woodward. They were married for over 43 years and were devoted to each other. She lived in Ladysmith before moving to Bowling Green where she worked side by side with her husband, Craig R. Woodward, Sr. in the family business, Woodward Electric, for many years, until his death in 1989. She continued to work part-time until 1992, when she retired.

Muriel served the community as an example of a true Christian with a kind and open heart to everyone she met. A member of the Bowling Green United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she was a dedicated Sunday School and volunteer. She was active in helping organize the first Town and Country Junior Woman's Club where she also served as treasurer. She volunteered as a "Lunch Buddy" in the Caroline County Public Schools and Bowling Green Health Care Center. An accomplished knitter, she taught classes locally. Her famous Welch cookies and the secret recipe will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

Muriel is survived by her children Craig Jr. and his wife, Mimi and Barbara Lee and her husband, John of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Ginger Lee and Craig III and his wife, Holly; a great grandson, Craig IV and a sister, Shirley Cross.

A memorial service will be held 11AM Thursday, January 12 at Bowling Green United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimy Edwards and Rev. Kevin James officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Storke Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bowling Green United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 513, Bowling Green, VA. 22427.
