Ora Payne Rossman, 94, of Williamsburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 4, 2013. She was born November 24, 1918 in Huddleston, Virginia, a daughter of the late Johnnie Ward Payne and Mary Mitchell Payne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Rossman; four brothers, George, Osby, Hoyt, and Kermit; as well as two sisters, Cammie Akers and Hessie P. Howell.
Mrs. Rossman was a graduate of Huddleston High School. She began working at C & P Telephone Company and after three years, she embarked upon her nursing career at Elks National Home Hospital in Bedford, VA for three years and at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, VA, retiring after thirty-four years of service.
She is survived by daughter, Shirley R. Jones and husband, Mark D. Jones, Sr.; grandchildren, Mark D. Jones, Jr. and wife, Lisa; and Melissa Lynn Jones; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sydney Jones; twin sister, Odessa P. Martin of Bedford, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 6 from 5-7 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 7 at 11 AM at the funeral home. A graveside service and interment will be held on Friday, February 8 at 12 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, 1104 Longwood Ave, Bedford, with a family gathering one hour prior at Trinity Baptist Church, 947 Lyle St, Bedford, VA.
