Philip J. "Phil" Howell, 75, of Williamsburg, formerly of Mathews and Virginia Beach, passed away on September 1, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elease H. Pendleton and his son, Philip Wayne Howell.

Phil worked as a CPA and was a member of the AICPA. He was a partner at Goodman & Company for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and was quite the Pork BBQ food connoisseur.

A devoted family man, Phil was an especially loving husband. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 18 years, Clara C. Howell; his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory T. and Rose Marie Howell, their children, Griffin T. Howell and Amber Rose Reilly (Patrick) and granddaughter, Addison Rose; daughter and son-in-law, Kim C. and Harry Dutton, their children, Zach, Alex and Gabe; daughter and son-in-law, Joy C. and Tom Perry, their children, Weldon and Jackson; and his brother and sister-in-law, Harvel and Peggy Howell.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 9 from 11:00 – 11:30 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, where the service will begin at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd Ste. A102, Newport News, VA 23606. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
