Richard E. Rumsey, 83, of Williamsburg, died on September 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Ostler and his father, Earl Rumsey.
Born January 1, 1929, in Boise, Idaho, Dick was a graduate of the University of Colorado. He married Jean Schilling in Chicago, IL. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he went on to work in the newspaper industry, retiring as Vice President of Finance for USA Today.
A man of deep faith, Dick always looked for ways to spread the message of God's love. He was a charter member of Living Savior Lutheran Church in Fairfax, VA and after retiring to Williamsburg, was a charter member of King of Glory Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean M. Rumsey; three children, Kristine Rumsey Schudde (Mark) of Hickory, NC, Kevin Rumsey (Susan) of Simpsonville, SC, and Kirk Rumsey (Shanda) of Swanton, OH; seven grandchildren, Emily Schudde, Erin Schudde, Jordan Rumsey, Taylor Rumsey, Joshua Rumsey, Jason Rumsey, and Shannon Rumsey; as well as two sisters, Betty Hansen (Lee) of Idaho Falls, ID; and Colleen Rudd (Clayton) of Boise, ID.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23 at 2 PM at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Memorial contributions may be made to the King of Glory Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
