Richard G. McKinney, 59, of Spring Grove passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Farmer McKinney. Richard was a retired fire fighter for the City of Hopewell with thirty years service. He was captain for the Hopewell Fire Department, member of the sons of the American Legion, sons of the VFW, sons of the Confederacy and member of several hunt clubs. He is survived by his wife, Janelle R. McKinney, son, Richard G. “RJ” McKinney, Jr., daughter, Leslie McKinney, step-son, Kenneth Wayne Dawson, step-daughter Joann Woodard, two sisters, Brenda Ann Jacob, Amber Dawn Emory and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell with Rev. Kenneth Hendricks officiating. Visitation will follow the service until 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Fire Department.
