Ferguson, Richard Henry, Sr., age 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, April 12, 2012. He was preceded in death By his parents, William Haigler and Myrtle Dean Ferguson; his brothers, William H. Ferguson, Jr. and David L. Ferguson; his sisters, Dorothy D. Ferguson and Virginia F. Liles; his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Collier Ferguson. He is survived by his second wife of six years, Gurleen V. Ferguson; his children, Richard H. Ferguson, Jr. of Asheville, North Carolina, Andrew C. Ferguson and his wife Logan, Mary Kendall White and her husband George, David F. Ferguson, Robert W.A. Ferguson and his wife Suzanne of Richmond, Virginia, and Elizabeth F. Madden and her husband Jeff of River Forest, Illinois; his brother, John T. Ferguson and sister-in-law Julia Meade Ferguson of Malvern Hill Farm; his sister, Mary Pat Hybl of Newport Beach, California; grandchildren, Porter Ferguson, Caroline, Ann Collier and Virginia Ferguson, Harris, David and Carson White, William and Jeb Ferguson, Henry Madden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ferguson was born and raised on Curles Neck Farm. He graduated from Varina High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Korea. Mr. Ferguson owned and operated James River Building Supply and Eastern Farms Systems. He was a member of the Westwood Club, The Richmond Cotillion and the Sandston Rotary Club.
He served as president of the Virginia Building Material Association, Chairman of the Virginia State Board of Contractors and as an officer of the Clan Fergusson Society of North America. The family will receive friends Monday, April 16 from 6 – 8 P.M. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. After a private burial, a Memorial Service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226 on Tuesday, April 17 at 11:30 A.M.
