Nugent, Robert Lyle went to be with his Lord on June 17, 2011, surrounded by his family and under the compassionate care of Hospice of Virginia at Retreat Hospital. He was born on September 5, 1923 in Petersburg, Virginia, the son of Henry Floyd and Elizabeth Motley Nugent. He graduated from Petersburg High School and attended the University of Richmond. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Nugent Barr, and is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Jean Marie Lewis Nugent. He is also survived by his daughter, Nancy Nugent Cheely and her husband, Joseph D. Cheely; three grandchildren, Andrew Shelton Cheely, II, Elizabeth Peyton Cheely and Christian Alec Barr; sisters, Barbara Nugent Moores and Mitzie Nugent Lyman and husband, Joseph, of Colonial Heights; and many nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the Defense General Supply Center as Deputy Comptroller in 1984 following 42 years of military and civil service. He was a former member of West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell where he served as an elder for many years. He moved to Richmond in 2006 and was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class and enjoyed singing in the senior choral group, the Golden Tones. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 214 North 6th Avenue, Hopewell. A service to celebrate his life will be held in the chapel at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, on Tuesday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George.
