Robert M. "Bob" Johnston, 83, of Williamsburg, passed away on November 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son, James Kennedy Johnston.
He began his career as a teacher and later became an administrator, but never lost his love for teaching. As an ultimate educator, he, along with a colleague, started the nursing program at CCAC in Pittsburgh, PA. A history buff, he taught and volunteered at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in his retirement. As a child, Bob grew up on a farm and later in life developed a passion for gardening. Most of all, he loved his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Peggy Johnston, seven children, twenty-five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary; and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 24 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, Williamsburg with a visitation an hour prior. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Olaf Catholic Church Building Fund, 104 Norge Lane, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
