ROBERT W. FARMER
Former Official of Caroline County
Robert W. Farmer, 86, former chairman and member of the Caroline County Board of Supervisors for 20 years, former member of the Bowling Green Town Council for 8 years and former Justice of the Peace and Magistrate for 22 years died on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was a retired Nationwide insurance agent for 37 years and a life-long resident of Bowling Green.
He was very active and dedicated to the community with 50 years of service. Throughout his decorated career he served on numerous governor appointed Boards and Commissions and organizations. He was the founder of the Bowling Green Volunteer Rescue Squad and served as a Charter member. Mr. Farmer had the honor of having a mini recreational park in Bowling Green named after him for his long history of public service to Caroline County, the "Robert W. Farmer Park', as well as a Portrait presented to him at a Celebration of his 50 years of service which is in the Caroline County Administration Building. Mr. Farmer was a veteran of the United States Navy, a Charter member of the Caroline County Chamber of Commerce, a 32nd degree Mason, a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Scottish Rites and a Deacon at Bowling green Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his fondest memories his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Lois Utley Farmer; his daughter, Susan Toker and her husband Jeff Toker; special and caring friends, Alice Farmer and Dale Ballew; three sisters, Catherine Durrett, Lillian Parsell and Elva Hayden; a brother, George Farmer; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will welcome friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Sat. Nov. 24, 2012 at Bowling Green Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Webber officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
