Ronald Iven "Abe" Thompson

Ronald Iven "Abe" Thompson, 69, of Surry, passed away on July 24, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald B. Thompson and brother, Marlow J. Thompson. After proudly serving in the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, Abe spent several years as a lamp maker for the Williamsburg area. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Katherine Jean Thompson; sons, Ray Thompson (Violet) and John J. Thompson (Pam); daughter, Teresa Brock; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Kimber, Bertha Price and Elsie Dawson; his mother in-law, Carolyn Adams; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 30 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The service will take place at Nelsen Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31 at 12:00 PM, with interment following at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
