Kistner, S. Nathanael- Sergeant Stephen Nathanael Kistner, beloved son of Cary Lindsay Kistner and Ann Conrad Kistner of Chester, Va, passed away on Saturday, 8 September 2012 at the age of 22. Nathanael was born on 22 February 1990 in Richmond, Virginia. A resident of Chester throughout his childhood, Nathanael graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 2008 with honors and many athletic accomplishments. Nathanael attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va to study geology. While at James Madison University, Nathanael enlisted in the United States Army to go above and beyond the call of duty for his country. He was a dedicated soldier exceeding all standards placed before him. Nathanael was always full of life, wanting to have fun, and always up for a good joke. Being the last child of 15, he stood out not for being the youngest, but for always being a caring, loving, and energetic brother and son. He constantly sought to do his best in everything he did, but even more he always wanted to help others. Being a champion, he was an avid runner, cyclist, and outdoorsman, often doing many races to challenge and push himself further than before. Nathanael was an ardent animal lover since he was a young child. He cared for his own pets and pets of others with sincere affection. Nathanael had two families that he loved dearly, his biological family and his Army family. Along with his parents, Nathanael is survived by his numerous beloved and cherished brothers and sisters: Foss Tyra Smithdeal III, William Reid Smithdeal, Heather Smithdeal King, Megan Smithdeal Vengala, Reagan Smithdeal Tieskoetter, Jonathan Lindsay Kistner, Joshua Elliot Kistner, Jacob Christian Kistner, Erin Kistner Moore, Joseph Seth Kistner, Hannah Joell Baldwin, Johanna Brooke Kistner, Marilyn Victoria Kistner, and Samuel Matthias Kistner; his aunts and uncles Dr. William Douglas Jr and Jeanne Conrad, Dr. Christian and Robin Conrad, and Paul and Carol Gerritsen, as well as his numerous brother and sister in-laws, endless nephews and nieces, many cousins, and treasured friends. Nathanael will truly be missed by all those who knew, cared for, and loved him. It has been said that no one has truly passed away until the very last person who knew them passes. Nathanael will truly live on within our hearts for a very long time. To honor his life as someone wanting to do good and help others, it has been requested those interested in supporting the Kistner family to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor him in lieu of flowers. Nathanael would be overjoyed to know those supporting have helped fellow veterans and wounded warriors overcome their own physical, mental, and financial struggles, giving them a second chance on life. Nathanael will surely be missed and forever loved, but most of all cherished in our thoughts and memories.
