Fowler, Stuart Wayne, 67, of Sandston, VA, rode his horse, George into heaven after a courageous four month battle with cancer. Wayne was the youngest of 15 children. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rebecca Suarez and William Edward Fowler, Sr. Four sisters and six brothers and his first wife, Diane Selph Fowler.

He was the owner of S. Wayne Fowler Carpentry and a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. Wayne was a horseman all his life and was involved in rodeo for over ten years, competing in roping events. He was the Virginia Cowboy Association Champion in Steer Wrestling for 1985. He currently rode with a group in Mechanicsville, VA. He was an active member of the Windsor Club of Elko where he served on the Board of Directors for many years. Wayne organized the first Elko Festival Day Parade and coordinated that event for six years. He was a member of the Sandston Masonic Lodge #216.

He is survived by his loving wife, Grace Gray Fowler; two sons, David W. Fowler and fiancé, Robin, Granger Gilbert and wife, Amy; daughter, Kimberly Lyon and husband, Steve; four grandchildren, Latané Gilbert, Justin, Trent and Cameron Lyon; two brothers, John Fowler and Wilson Fowler; two sisters, Phyllis Wittsell and Jane Mantlo and husband, Bubba; numerous nephews and nieces; mother-in-law, Bernice F. Selph, and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 9 from 10 AM – 8 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. Funeral Services will be held at New Bridge Baptist Church, 5701 Elko Road, Sandston, VA 23150 at 2 PM, Thursday, May 10. Interment will take place following the service at Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, make donations to New Bridge Baptist Church Insight/Outdoor Ministry or Horses-In-Service, 6302 Hines Road, Richmond, VA 23231. The family requests all Cowboys and Cowgirls to wear their cowboy hats and jeans.
