Colonel Theodore Spring Block (USA, Ret), 82, of Williamsburg, passed away on July 20, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son, Captain Theodore S. Block, Jr. (USA, Ret) and his parents, Harvey T. Block and Gladys S. Block.
Ted was a graduate of Yakima High School, Yakima, WA; received both bachelor and masters degrees from Washington State University; and graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
Ted retired from the U.S. Army after serving 30 years as a Signal Corps Officer. He served in numerous assignments in the United States and overseas in Korea, Vietnam, Italy and Belgium. He retired from the Army in August 1982 after serving in his last post as the Director of Procurement and Production for the Army Communications-Electronic Command at Fort Monmouth, NJ.
Ted was a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. He was active civically, being the past president of the Red Bank, NJ Kiwanis Club, served as an elder in various churches, and was a long-time volunteer fireman in Washington State and New Jersey.
Ted is survived by his wife, Joanne Oliver Block; brother, Dr. John H. Block and sister-in-law, Alice M. Block; son, Colonel Gregory O. Block (USA, Ret) and his wife, Maureen D. Block; two daughters, Kathleen A. B. Pearsall and her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert H. Pearsall, Jr. (USA, Ret) and Jacqueline B. Sellers and her husband, Richard L. Sellers; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer L. Pearsall, Captain Gilbert H. Pearsall III, First Lieutenant Robert C. Pearsall, Colin O. Block, Gordon G. Block, Suzanne F. Sellers, Matthew W. Sellers and Christine D. Sellers.
A memorial service will be held at Patriots Colony in Williamsburg on Friday, July 27 at 10 AM. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
