Therese Ann (Ward) Geenty, 85, formerly of Newington, CT and Palm Coast, FL, passed away Tuesday, July 24th at her home in Burke, VA. She was born September 17, 1926 in Greenwich, CT; the daughter of John and Anna (Helupka) Ward. She graduated from Greenwich High School in 1944. She attended the University of Connecticut where she was Vice President of her Pi Beta Phi chapter, met her future husband, Bill., and graduated in 1948 with a BS in Microbiology. Terry and Bill were married in 1949. She worked in Cancer Research and as a licensed Medical Technologist in hospitals in New York and Connecticut, retiring from the U.S. Veteran's Hospital in Newington, CT in 1989. Terry and Bill then relocated to Palm Coast, FL, where they spent many happy years with friends, as active members of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Irish Club, Italian Club, and other social organizations. They enjoyed staying in their condo on the ocean in Daytona Beach, cruising, and traveling to see their children's families.
Terry is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, William T. Geenty, Jr.; her children, W. Thomas Geenty III of Woodbridge, VA, Michael J. Geenty and his wife Susan of Middlefield, CT, John R. Geenty and his fiancee Cathy Horne of Raleigh, NC, and Linda A. (Geenty) Iskrzak and her husband Tom of Burke, VA. She also leaves behind 9 beloved grandchildren: Bill, Luke, Andy, Michael, Jessica, Ellen, Kevin, Joseph and Jonathan; a great-granddaughter Madailynn; a soon-to-arrive great-grandson; and a nephew Harold "Skip" Lee. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Margaret (Ward) Lee.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the unbelievably dedicated, professional and compassionate care provided to Terry by the nursing team from Irma's group and Capital Caring Hospice. They truly became like family, and went above and beyond in their devotion and kindness!
