Virginia R. Richards, 89, passed away at The Towne House Retirement Community, February 18, 2013. She was born on February 24, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of William and Martha (Dega) Kuschel. She married Monte K. Richards on June 14, 1947 at St. Mark's Church in Detroit. After brief residences in Kalamazoo and Detroit, the couple moved to Fort Wayne in 1955. Virginia was an excellent secretary and bookkeeper and utilized those skills as treasurer for the athletic department at R. Nelson Snider High School, an assistant to Mayor Robert Armstrong, and a secretary to Gary Probst. Virginia was a fifty year member at and volunteer with the First Presbyterian Church. She had a passion for reading that she willingly shared with family and friends alike. She was an avid gardener, delighting in growing woodland plants in her garden. She never met an animal that she didn't like. Virginia is survived by her daughter Debra Altenbernd of Tampa, Florida and her son Chris Richards of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial service is 7 pm, Thursday, February 21, 2013 at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior, Rev. Douglas Vogel officiating.
